The other day, I was browsing some website or another (totally innocent, I swear), and came across this interesting playboy piece titled “does more drink equal more sex”:
http://www.playboy.com/playground/view/up-in-smoke-beer-goggles (link and associated adverts are totally NSFW by the way, so don’t open if you’re at the office)
A synopsis, in case you are at the office and don’t want your co-workers to think your a porn addict:
“We’ve all heard the term “beer goggles,” and we may have even fallen victim to its devious ways after one too many at the bar. But what is it exactly? While there have been various studies on beer goggles, this we know: the consumption of alcohol lowers many sexual hang-ups and blows away any restraint you have when picking a sexual partner.”
It boils down to this: people get hotter the more you drink! If you’re feeling horny, you’re more likely to wake up with a hangover and a large amount of shame hanging over you.
An interesting documentary, available to watch on Youtube (and embedded below), called The Truth About Sex delved into the beer goggles phenomenon by designing a study to test men’s ability to detect variations of facial symmetry while under the influence of alcohol. In layman terms, they got a bunch of dudes drunk and then tested their vision.
The study participants were shown six photos of women before they started to drink and then asked to rate the photos from 1 to 10; 10 meaning they’d want to have sex with the woman and 1 meaning no chance in hell. Once each male study participant had a blood alcohol level of .08, they were shown the same photos, but this time altered to have a less symmetrical face. Were their inhibitions lowered once they had downed a few pints?
You’ll have to watch the video to find out 😉
