It’s great to celebrate Christmas, NYE and other ‘holidays’ with a nice alcoholic beverage, but here at Sobur HQ our calendar is a bit different from what you find on most kitchen walls. It’s filled with every national holiday dedicated, or partially related, to alcohol.
What can we say… we didn’t create a hangover cure so that we could drink LESS!!
National Rum Day is on August 16 2014 (a Saturday) this year, and as I’m a big rum fan I decided to share my favourite rum cocktail recipes with you.
Each of these drinks use White Rum so they’re perfect for getting you through these hot summer weekends. Enjoy!
10 Second Mojito
Ingredients:
- 2 oz. white rum
- 3/4 oz. lime juice (freshly squeezed)
- 3/4 oz. simple syrup (mint) *
- 10 mint leaves (fresh, torn into small pieces)
- Mint sprigs (to garnish)
*Bring equal parts white sugar and water to a low boil. Add 2 cups of torn mint. Allow to cool and strain.
Instructions:
My favorite of all the rum cocktail recipes shown here, mostly because is takes 10 seconds to knock one together, dispelling the myth that this is a laborious cocktail, which it can be:
- Add everything to a shaker with ice.
- Strain into a tall glass over lots of ice.
- Add a splash of soda.
- Garnish with an obnoxiously large mint sprig.
Rum & Pineapple Fiesta
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz. White Rum
- 5 oz. pineapple juice
- 1 oz. soda
Instructions:
Fill a tall glass with ice. Pour in the rum. Top with the pineapple juice and splash of soda. Garnish with a lime wedge. Simple and delicious!
Between The Sheets
Ingredients:
- 1 oz. white rum
- 1 oz. Cointreau
- 1/2 oz. lemon juice
- 1 oz. cognac
Instructions:
Shake the rum, Cointreau, juice, and cognac (substitute another French or Spanish brandy if you want a softer version) well with cracked ice, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a twist of lemon.
Spiked Agua Fresca
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz. White rum
- 2 oz. Strawberry & Mint Agua Fresca (recipe follows)
- 3 cucumber dials
Instructions:
In a rocks glass, combine rum and Strawberry and Mint Agua Fresca with cracked ice. Slide the 3 cucumber dials down the sides of the glass.
Strawberry & Mint Agua Ingredients:
- ¾ cup water
- 2 cups of strawberries tops cut off and hulled
- 2 tbsp. sugar
- 3 oz. lime juice
- 2 tbsp. fresh mint leaves
Strawberry & Mint Agua Instructions:
Puree all ingredients in a high-speed blender. Strain through a fine mesh strainer. Chill and set aside until ready to use.
Rum & Cola
Ingredients:
- .5 oz. White rum
- 5 oz. Cola
Instructions:
Fill a glass with ice. Pour in the rum. Top with the cola. Garnish with a lime wedge.
White Rum Daiquiri
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz. White rum
- 1 oz. lime juice
- 1 oz. simple syrup
Instructions:
In a shaker half filled with ice, add rum, lime juice, simple syrup. Shake well and strain into cocktail glass filled with ice. Garnish with lime.
